Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 1999 No Barrique No Berlusconi
Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 1999 No Barrique No Berlusconi is a unicorn, a wine that has entered legend due to the intrinsic value of the winery it comes from and of the personality, Bartolo Mascarello, who remains an influential figure even many years after his passing. The Mascarello winery still produces only a few thousand bottles per year, all red wines from the Barolo Langa, all managed with traditional and artisanal care, with very few interventions in the cellar. Bartolo Mascarello's Barolo is an important barometer in every vintage.
With the "No Barrique No Berlusconi" label on the 1999 Barolo, Bartolo Mascarello voiced his thoughts at the time, aligning himself - even ironically - against the Barolo Boys and the experimentation of Barolo in barriques, which caused many a raised eyebrow.
This bottle comes from a friend of Bartolo's; its storage has been optimal: it is one of the last bottles in circulation for a unique wine, which I call a Unicorn precisely because its availability is virtually zero.
